Typical characteristics of polypropylene staple fiber

Polypropylene staple fiber is mainly used in polypropylene needled carpet, which increases the elasticity and recovery rate and softness of the carpet, so that the carpet can achieve a more comfortable effect. PP staple fiber has superior moisture conductivity and fast drying, good carding and spinning properties, can produce soft and appropriate toughness of fabric, fabric light weight, good warmth, delicate feel, comfortable to handle, acid and alkali resistance. At the same time, it has the advantages of fast melting speed, good filling, good sound insulation and so on. PP short fiber is widely used in clothing processing, automotive interior, carpet, tapestry, decorative cloth, all kinds of non-woven fabrics, geotextiles, engineering, wool and other fields.


The physical and mechanical properties of polypropylene staple fiber are characterized by high strength (4 ~ 6g/denier, filament is 5 ~ 8g/denier), wet strength and dry strength are basically the same, small specific gravity (0.91), good wear resistance and corrosion resistance.


Polypropylene production includes staple, filament and split film fibers. Polypropylene film fibers are made by making polypropylene into a film and then stretching the film to split it into a network of fibril.


Physical characteristics:

1. The longitudinal surface of pp is straight and smooth, and the cross section is circular.

2. The advantage of high density PP fiber is light texture. Its density is only 0.91g/cm3, which is a very light variety of ordinary chemical fiber, so the same weight of PP fiber can obtain higher coverage area than other fibers.

3. Strong elongation polypropylene staple fiber has the characteristics of high strength, large elongation, high initial modulus, good elasticity and so on. So polypropylene wears well. In addition, polypropylene has roughly equal wet and dry strength, making it an ideal material for fishing nets and cables.

4. Moisture absorption, dyeing, light weight, good heat preservation; Almost not hygroscopic, but the core hygroscopic ability is very strong, hygroscopic sweating effect is obvious; Polypropylene hygroscopicity is very small, almost no hygroscopicity, general atmospheric conditions under the hygroscopicity close to zero. But it has a core suction that can transport water vapor through the fabric without absorbing any of its own water vapor. Pp staining is poor, incomplete chromatography, but can be made up by liquid coloring method.

5. Acid and alkali resistance pp has good chemical corrosion resistance, in addition to concentrated nitric acid, concentrated caustic soda, pp has good acid and alkali resistance, so it is suitable for filtration materials and packaging materials.

6. Light resistance and other polypropylene short fiber light resistance is poor, poor thermal stability, easy to aging, ironing. However, the anti-aging properties of fibers can be improved by adding anti-aging agents in the spinning process. In addition, polypropylene has good electrical insulation, but it is easy to produce static electricity during processing. Because the thermal conductivity of polypropylene is small, good heat preservation.

7. High strength polypropylene filament strength is second only to polyamide, but the price is only 1/3 of polyamide; The fabric is stable in size, good in wear resistance and elasticity, and good in chemical stability. But the thermal stability is poor, sun resistance, easy to aging brittle damage, so often add anti-aging agents in polypropylene.
